This class and jam will offer you a unique opportunity to learn and practice techniques taught and passed down by the founders of Contact Improvisation, notably Nancy Stark Smith and Steve Paxton.

These techniques form the foundation of a safe Contact Improvisation practice and are essential for dancers of all levels.

The class will also provide you with tools to integrate your senses (hearing and sight) with your body and your dancing of CI.

The ability to perceive and respond to different types of information lies at the heart of Contact Improvisation. By cultivating curiosity and broadening our perceptions, we can simultaneously receive and respond to various types of sensory and physical information.

This can deepen presence and support, expand your movement choices and transform your dancing of Contact Improvisation.

Juliet Shelley discovered Contact Improvisation at a young age, after completing her professional dance training at the Laban Centre in London.

She studied and practiced CI with the form's founders, notably Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smith.

Nancy Stark Smith was her teacher, mentor, and close friend.

Juliet has taught Contact Improvisation classes and workshops in the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Asia, New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.

For the past four years while residing in Paris, she has been developing her practice of integrating the senses with the body in her work as a dancer, teacher, and performer.
